Neil Henderson Award

The Henderson award was established in April 2011 to honor Distinguished Alumni of the University of South Alabama School of Computing (SOC). This annual award is presented to an SOC alumnus that has achieved noteworthy accomplishments through technology, service, and/or philanthropy.

The Henderson award is so named in recognition of Mr. Neil Henderson's many career accomplishments and his generosity to SOC through service and philanthropy.

Neil Henderson (SOC MS '90), founded and grew Accelerated Technologies into an international, multimillion dollar technology company. When Accelerated Technologies was acquired, Neil remained with the company as General Manager and led Mentor Graphics to become one of the leading technology companies in Mobile and the majority occupant in the University of South Alabama Technology Park. Neil served on the SOC Advisory Board for many years and taught several courses in SOC.

From his earliest efforts at Accelerated Technologies, Neil remembered and engaged SOC, hiring SOC graduates and providing scholarships for promising graduate students. Equally generous personally, a scholarship fund endowed by Neil, provides four annual scholarships for SOC students. Neil was the first to sponsor and name a research laboratory in Shelby Hall.

The Henderson Award will be presented at the SOC Spring Celebration each spring.
