Setting up your Guestbook on Geocities

  1. Load the following URL in your browser. http://www.geocities.com/cgi-bin/homestead/file_manager

  2. A box will appear which prompts you for your user name and password. Use the name and password that were mailed to you when you set up your webspace.

  3. You will then be taken to a page where there is a button labeled Enter the File Manager. Click this button, and you will be taken to the File Manager page.

  4. Scroll down and you will find a button labeled Geoguide Manager. Click this button.

  5. You will be taken to a page with a list of things you can add to your page. One of those is Guestbook.

  6. Click this button, and you will be taken to another page where you are prompted for your user name and password again. Then click Submit after you have entered your user name and password.

  7. The first thing you need to do is change the appearance of the page which people will go to when they make an entry in your guestbook. You can change the Sign in greeting and also the questions which the user will be asked. By default a person that signs your guestbook will be asked for their name, URL of their home page, and their Email. You may choose 6 other questions to ask the person. You may be as creative with those questions as you want.

  8. Then choose the appearance of the actual guestbook page that holds all entries in your guestbook.

  9. In order for people to view and/or add to your guestbook, you need to place the following links on your page. You may change the phrases "Sign My Guestbook" and "View My Guestbook" to whatever you like.

  10. Then click Save My Guestbook.
